About Equiptra

Demand for high voltage equipment isn't going away.

New transformers and breakers take years to build. The equipment a project needs is often already constructed, sitting as surplus in someone else's yard. Equiptra helps you close that gap.

A constraint on high voltage equipment

Grid expansion, data centers, and electrification are pulling demand for high voltage equipment forward faster than manufacturers can add capacity. Lead times for new transformers and breakers have stretched to nearly three years, and the gap is structural, not a blip the next factory expansion will close.

For the teams building this infrastructure, equipment has become the schedule. Projects that used to be gated by permits and interconnection are now gated by a delivery date years out, and the search for equipment increasingly starts before the project does.

A stranded supply

At the same time, billions of dollars of high voltage equipment sits idle. Projects get delayed, cancelled, or re-scoped. Developers over-procure to protect schedules and meet regulatory deadlines. The result is idle equipment destined for a storage yard instead of a project site, tying up capital and burning through storage, insurance, and maintenance costs.

Most of those owners are in the business of building power plants, not selling equipment. Moving a surplus transformer means pulling engineers and commercial staff off the work that matters.

A gap in procurement

The secondary market for this equipment has always run through brokers and personal networks. Buyers can't see what's actually available, or whether a unit meets their technical and delivery requirements. Sellers can't reach the buyers who need what they have. And when the two sides do find each other, diligence, assignment, and contracting friction regularly stall deals that should close.

An introduction is not a transaction. The hard part—verifying the equipment, building the data room, aligning technical and commercial terms, and getting to signed documents—is usually left for the two parties to figure out on their own.

Why we built Equiptra

Equiptra is a transaction platform for verified buyers and sellers of surplus and in-process energy equipment, starting with high voltage transformers and circuit breakers. We source real inventory from equipment owners, verify every listing and every counterparty, build the data rooms, and manage the transaction from listing to close. You handle the commercial negotiation; we handle everything else.

As Equiptra scales the platform, supply expands to include new equipment from OEMs, so procurement teams can source surplus and manufacturer supply through one consistent channel. We are building the modern procurement operating system to help operators, OEMs, and utilities buy, build, and deploy equipment at the speed the grid actually needs.

The founders

Built by industry operators, for the teams pushing it forward.

Between them, Evan and Ben have spent two decades engineering, building, and transacting on utility-scale energy projects, including the surplus equipment deals that showed them exactly where the gaps in the market exist.

Co-founder

Previously: Ørsted · Tesla

Evan previously spent 7 years at Ørsted: engineering and construction project manager for 1.1 GW of onshore wind and solar projects across the US, then M&A transaction manager for the acquisition and divestment of onshore solar projects and 29 surplus high voltage transformers and circuit breakers. He's now bringing that commercial and technical experience to build the modern energy equipment procurement platform at Equiptra. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Ben has spent over 17 years delivering critical infrastructure projects across the energy, aerospace, and defense industries. Prior to forming Equiptra in 2026, Ben was the Vice President of Project Execution at Hexagon Energy where he oversaw the company's long-lead procurement and project delivery functions for 1.3 GW of utility-scale solar projects. Before that, he served as Senior Director of Engineering at Ørsted Onshore, where he oversaw engineering for the company's North American renewables portfolio and delivered 3+ GW of wind, solar, and battery storage projects to operations. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia.
